It made me think laterally, and because I had to be so concise with the haiku's I found myself better able to process the situation I was reflecting on. I was pleased that there was no requirement to find rhymes as I think this would have made it harder. ","I found the idea of ""poetry"" quite intimidating to start with. Poetry is not something I have ever considered myself good at so it felt a little scary initially. I hated writing poetry at school and it took me back to my GCSE english classroom where we were forced to write poems for assessment (however this feeling of being back in the classroom passed quickly). ","Initially I felt a little bit scared, intimidated and unsure where to begin. Once I started putting pen to paper and getting some words down I felt surprised that it was coming together and that I had been able to start constructing a poem. I felt surprised and pleased once I had written the first poem because I had been able to do it, and then I felt more confident to write another poem. ","I found writing a poem extremely useful, I found that it made me think about my situation in a different way. I wrote a few different poems and after the first one I felt more confident about syllables and what I needed to do to pull the poem together. ",Nothing.,Yes,"Writing a poem made me reflect on my situations in a different way. I had already tried to reflect on the situations I wrote about using a couple of different methods, both written and spoken, but the situation still felt unsettled in my mind as though I wasn't able to get it out on paper. By writing poetry I found that I was better able to process the situations in a concise and timely manner - whereas I had previously spent hours reflecting on these situations only to be no clearer on anything. I think because the poetry made me think in a different way it helped me to dig deeper and think about the situation in a different way. I needed to convey what had happened and why it was important in 12 syllables so that the impact could be understood when I read it back. I found it so helpful that after the session I came home and wrote lots of poems about different situations and I felt so much better after writing the poetry.
