This document provides further details corresponding to the data set in the article: LeadersÕ creation of shared identity impacts group membersÕ effort and performance: Evidence from an exercise task Brief summary of the experiment: In this study, participants completed two 5km time trials on a cycling ergometer. Prior to their second time trial (which participants completed 1 to 2 weeks after their first), participants were divided into one of two conditions (high and low identity entrepreneurship), and further divided into groups of four. Before they completed their second trial, participants were exposed to a manipulation delivered by a confederate ÔleaderÕ. Analyses focused on the differences in the changes in effort and performance between participants in the high and low identity entrepreneurship conditions from Trial 1 to Trial 2. More specifically, a number of indicators of effort and performance were used, which can be seen in the dataset. These were as follows: * Maximum heart rate * Average heart rate * Time taken * Average power output * Average power output in the first 60 seconds of the time trial. In addition, average power output was calculated over each 250m interval of the time trial, with this data used to examine differences in pacing across participants in the two conditions. These raw data can also be seen in the dataset. Further details of the research design, methods, and analyses used in the study are provided in the published manuscript.
